Abia State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kingsley Ononogbu has said the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Act strategically positioned the region in President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Ononogbu stated this while receiving former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member for Bende South constituency in the State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ndubuisi into the APC in Umuahia, the state capital.
He expressed appreciation to the sponsor of the Bill for the Act, the deputy speaker and member for Bende federal constituency, Benjamin Kalu describing it “as a demonstration of effective regional representation.”
“Kalu has redefined legislative performance at the National Assembly,” he said, describing the Act as “a historic legislation that now serves as a major policy framework for the development of region.”
Ononogbu, who said he was excited to receive Ndubuisi into the APC, noted that Bende constituency has consistently stood for the APC given the calibre of leaders it has produced “and the party’s dominance in the area.
“I’m from Bende. Ndubuisi, the deputy speaker, and the senator for Abia North and a former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, are also. So, you can see how deep-rooted the APC is in the constituency.”
Presenting the APC symbol, which is a bunch of brooms, to Ndubuisi, he charged him to bring his wealth of experience to strengthen the APC across the constituency, assuring him of the cooperation and support of the members.
In a response, the second-term former PDP legislator said he was attracted to the APC by the quantity of the president’s policies, and the achievements of the deputy speaker across the constituency and the Southeast.
He lauded the APC for the warmth reception accorded him, assuring that “understanding the strength in the bunch as against a stick, I will do my best to make the bunch bigger.”
Earlier, while introducing Ndubuisi, Bende local government area chairman of the APC, Okezie Usim, represented by his deputy, Benjamin Akpabio, described him as a strong and seasoned grassroots politician.
