The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Dr. Bala Bello, representing the Northeast, as the part-time chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Five other nominees were also confirmed for appointment as Non-Executive Directors of AMCON.
Their confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the report by the Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions during plenary on Wednesday.
LEADERSHIP reports that the confirmed Non-Executive Directors include: Yusuf Tegina Sule – North-Central, Adeyemo Adeoye Stephen – South-West, Yahaya Ibrahim – North-West, Odion Charles Iyare – South-South, Emily Chidinma Osuji – South-East.
While presenting the committee’s report for consideration, Senator Osita Izunaso (APC-Imo), on behalf of the committee chairman, stated that after a thorough engagement with the nominees, the committee was satisfied with their experience, performance, and academic qualifications. He, therefore, recommended their confirmation.
He added that there were no petitions against the nominees, as they had been cleared by security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, after the confirmation, thanked the committee members for their work in screening the nominees.
He hoped the new AMCON leadership would bring renewed vigour to the corporation’s operations.
