Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has cautioned Islamic clerics across the state to be vigilant and guard against deceitful promises and manipulative tactics often used by politicians during election periods.

Speaking on Monday during an interactive session with Islamic scholars from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State, the former federal lawmaker urged clerics not to allow themselves to be induced or swayed by politicians seeking votes for selfish interests.

Sani warned against politicians who only reach out to religious leaders during election seasons and abandon them afterwards.

“The era of deceit and the use-and-dump attitude towards Islamic clerics is over,” he declared.

Sani, however, called on the clerics to support the re-election bid of Governor Uba Sani, describing him as a responsive and people-focused leader who has shown commitment to good governance since assuming office nearly two years ago.

He said the governor had demonstrated sincerity and dedication to addressing the yearnings of citizens through inclusive leadership and developmental initiatives.

“Governor Uba Sani has proven himself as a listening and visionary leader. He has shown genuine interest in the welfare of the people, and I believe he deserves the continued support of religious and community leaders.”

He advised Islamic clerics to work together in identifying and presenting the key needs of the Muslim community, including mosque renovations, establishment of Islamic schools, and assistance for orphanages to the State government through coordinated efforts, he said.

Sani also appealed to the clerics to continue praying for Governor Uba Sani and to support his administration’s developmental drive.

In their responses, the clerics commended the senator for organising the meeting, describing it as timely and enlightening.

They said the engagement exposed the manipulative tendencies of some politicians and pledged to mobilise support for credible leaders with proven records of capacity and performance in future elections.
