It’s not been long since Tottenham barely survived relegation from the Premier League. Spurs’ flirting with relegation lasted all the way until the final day, when a win at Everton confirmed them in 17th place, with West Ham dropping down to the Championship instead.

Now, they’ve already set about building a better team for next season, and they’re doing so without spending any money. Tottenham have now been in advanced talks for two of the league’s most sought after free agents, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi.

Robertson and Senesi would hope to join a team that will have stars like Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus all returning from injury. Spurs capture Senesi and Robertson on free transfers

Following Andy Robertson’s departure from Liverpool as his contract expires at the end of the season, Tottenham have moved quickly to snatch him up. It is understood that an agreement is already in place, and he will be in a Spurs shirt this time next season.

The Scotland international had made 378 appearances for Liverpool, having joined the club from Hull City in 2017. In his time at the club, he has won two Premier League titles, and was a crucial piece of the Liverpool team that won the Champions League in 2019, coincidentally beating Tottenham in the final.

Marcos Senesi seems to be the second free signing coming through the door at Tottenham this summer. 29-year-old Senesi has been a standout player for Bournemouth this season, but after negotiations with the club seemed to break down, Senesi is being allowed to walk on a free transfer.

Spurs have been quick to move for him. Senesi made 37 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth this season as they qualified for the Europa League. While he had been negotiating with overseas clubs, it now seems that Spurs will win the race for his signature.

Tottenham’s rebuild cannot come soon enough

Tottenham had a horrific season last year. Since winning the Europa League in 2025 and breaking their trophy drought, they have been one of the weakest teams in the league, barely surviving in the league. It was obvious that something had to change.

But given the financial restrictions (though self-imposed) that Spurs continue to operate under, and the lack of any European football to bring in extra funds, Spurs have had to be sensible in order to rebuild their team.

This is why the signings of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson are so important: because they are high-quality and economical. Senesi was among the most consistent centre-backs in the league last year, and Andy Robertson has played at the highest level for almost a decade. Both will help Spurs on their way back up the table towards Europe again.
