AFC Bournemouth continued their impressive Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at home on Sunday.
Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Brazilian forward Evanilson doubled the advantage shortly after half-time to secure all three points for the hosts.
Tavernier broke the deadlock after connecting with a pass from Evanilson, giving Bournemouth an early lead and putting Sunderland under pressure.
The visitors attempted to respond, but Bournemouth maintained their advantage until the interval, despite a series of bookings during a fiercely contested first half.
Evanilson then struck three minutes after the restart, in the 48th minute, to make it 2-0 and put Bournemouth firmly in control of the encounter.
Sunderland struggled to find a way back into the match as Bournemouth defended their lead and limited the visitors’ opportunities.
The contest also saw yellow cards for Bournemouth’s Kevin Danso, while Antonio Silva and Omar Alderete were booked for Sunderland. Luke Cook was also cautioned before half-time, with Chris Rigg and Ryan Christie receiving bookings in the second half.
Bournemouth held on comfortably to claim a clean-sheet victory, while Sunderland were left to reflect on a disappointing afternoon after failing to find the net.
The result strengthens Bournemouth’s position in the Premier League, while Sunderland will look to respond in their next fixture.
