President Bola Tinubu yesterday hosted the President of Gabon, Brice Oligui Nguema, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a meeting aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

The closed-door engagement which marked a significant step towards enhanced South-South collaboration, focused on deepening diplomatic ties, encouraging cross-border investments and promoting regional stability.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, President Nguema expressed his administration’s commitment to build stronger ties with Nigeria, noting that Gabon saw Nigeria as a strategic partner in achieving its development goals.

He described the meeting as fruitful and forward-looking, adding that the talks covered opportunities for Nigerian businesses to invest in Gabon’s thriving oil and mineral sectors.

“Things are going very well in Gabon right now, and as I told His Excellency, President Tinubu, we believe in South-South cooperation,” Nguema said, “It will be a good thing for Nigerian companies to come to Gabon and invest in our oil and mineral sectors.

Gabon is open for business, and we have the resources to attract serious investors.”

Nguema emphasised the importance of regional collaboration in addressing shared development challenges and urged Nigeria’s private sector to take advantage of Gabon’s rich natural endowments and investment-friendly environment.

The visit also highlighted Gabon’s intention to reposition itself on the global investment map by leveraging partnerships within Africa to stimulate growth, infrastructure development, and sustainable economic diversification.
