Also speaking, the programme coordination for the Transporters For Tinubu 2027, Chinwe Uwaegbute said the attendance of the transport union members reflected their collective commitment to improving safety, welfare and professionalism within Nigeria`s transport sector.
Uwaegbute, who said that transportation remained central to national development, however pointed out that the demand of the driver`s profession often exposed them to health challenges, fatigues and welfare concerns that directly after road safety.
According to her, “It is in recognition of these realities that this initiative has been designed as a practical intervention focused on health awareness, responsible driving culture, and sustainable welfare support for transport operators. The key components- eye screening, drug abuse sensitization, and general wellness advocacy, address critical factors that influence safety driving.
“As we often say, our drivers are very confident people, once they know the route, they feel they can drive with their eyes almost closed, but today`s program is here to ensure the eyes remain open and the body remains healthy.”
