Trabzonspor Report Al-Ahli To FIFA Over Alleged Illegal Approach For Onuachu

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA against Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, accusing them of making an unauthorised approach for Nigeria international Paul Onuachu.

Onuachu enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Trabzonspor last season, scoring 26 goals and providing two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. His prolific form helped the Black Sea Storm secure a top-three league finish and lift the Turkish Cup, while he also finished as the Turkish Super Lig’s leading scorer.

His impressive displays have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe and the Middle East, with Al-Ahli emerging as the most serious contender. The Saudi club are reportedly prepared to offer the Super Eagles striker a salary worth four times his current earnings.

According to Puskas Sports, Trabzonspor claim that Al-Ahli contacted Onuachu directly to discuss a potential transfer without first obtaining the Turkish club’s permission, an action they believe breaches FIFA transfer regulations.

The 31-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract with Trabzonspor. Under FIFA rules, clubs are generally only permitted to negotiate directly with a player during the final six months of his contract unless they have received authorisation from the player’s current club.

Although Trabzonspor are understood to be open to selling the striker, they are reportedly seeking a transfer fee of between €10 million and €15 million. The club also expect Onuachu to formally express his desire to leave before any deal can progress, something he has not yet done.

If FIFA finds Al-Ahli guilty of breaching its transfer regulations, the Saudi club could face disciplinary sanctions, including a financial penalty.

With the summer transfer window now in full swing, Onuachu’s future is set to remain under close scrutiny as FIFA examines the complaint. The Nigerian forward remains a key figure for the Super Eagles, but his next move could depend on the outcome of the governing body’s investigation.
