The Yobe State House of Assembly has adopted the report of its standing committee on public Account on the state Auditor General’s report for the year 2022.
The House adopted the report after extensive deliberations on the recommendations of the committee by members at the floor of the house.
The chairman of the house committee on public Account Hon, Bulama Bukar has while shading light on the report said the house has before the adoption granted three months time to some ministries, departments and agencies to defend their appropriations while those found with financial misappropriation were directed to refund the such resources to the government.
Bukar also said the house has recommended for the government to direct all MDAs to establish a comprehensive assets and contract register in line with the accounting principles for transparency and accountability in all government business.
“The House has also stressed the need for the executive arm of government to direct MDA,s to submit copy or details of preliminary estimates and bills of quantities to the office of the Auditor General before the commencement of any project to comply with auditing standards.
“The public account committee would continue to work hard in hand with the office of the state and local governments Auditor Generals to ensure prudent management in financial transactions in the state.”
Presiding over the sitting, the speaker of the House Rt Hon Chiroma Buba Mashio commended the House committee on public Account for presenting a comprehensive report that would assist government in safeguarding public funds at all times.
