In a bid to foster democratic participation between the government and the citizens, The Tattaaunawa Roundtable Initiative (TRICentre) has called for the establishment of office of civic engagement to bridge the gap between government institutions and the public.

A press release signed by TRICentre Team Lead, Prince Charles Dickson PhD over the weekend, said that the move is aimed at fostering collaboration, promoting transparency, and advancing democratic values.

Prince Dickson explained that transparency and accountability in governance are key priorities of the Office of Civic Engagement hence the office will enhance transparency in decision-making processes, fostering a sense of ownership and trust among citizens.

“This inclusive approach will enable citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of their communities and hold government institutions accountable”.

Similarly, the office will focus on disseminating information and fostering public education and awareness through workshops, public forums, and educational campaigns whilst empowering citizens with the knowledge and understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and the functioning of government.

“The Office of Civic Engagement will serve as a facilitator of dialogue and collaboration between government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups by bringing together stakeholders from various sectors, the office will create opportunities for sharing ideas, working collectively towards common goals, and finding innovative solutions to complex challenges”.
