In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command said it received a distress call at about 1p.m. on April 22, 2025, reporting that an armed robbery syndicate, led by Baba-Beru, was attacking residents of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala local government area of the state.

The gang, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, was said to be terrorising innocent residents when the police responded.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, the police team was attacked by the suspects upon arrival at the scene, leading to a confrontation that left two officers — Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu — injured.

The statement added that the prime suspect, Baba-Beru also sustained serious injuries.

“All parties were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where the suspect died while receiving treatment, and the officers were treated and discharged,” the statement revealed.

The police said Baba-Beru, a resident of Kofar Mazugal Quarters in Dala LGA, had been on their wanted list prior to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Command said it has launched manhunt to apprehend other members of the syndicate who fled the scene.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended the bravery of the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

He also appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious activities or provide information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect’s accomplices.
