Indications have emerged as to why some political appointees and aides of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have continued to resign their appointments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
LEADERSHIP gathered that they are resigning from his administration due to shifting political alignments, internal wrangling, and preparations ahead of the election. High-profile resignations such as Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi and
Senior Special Assistant Funmi Arulogun have been tied to rumours of moving toward other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), or distancing themselves from the governor’s camp. Also, aides, such as Hon.
Funmi Arulogun (Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters), have stepped down, citing personal and political considerations as party dynamics shift. It would be recalled that Governor Makinde had formally dissolved the Oyo State
Executive Council and terminated the appointments of various political office holders to restructure his administration as the election cycle nears. A source said Makinde’s 2027 presidential ambition, such as picking up the All
Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, has caused internal friction, division, and realignments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his broader coalition in Oyo State.
He added that administrative and cabinet restructuring had faced a wave of voluntary resignations and targeted political shake-ups as the governor reconfigures his team and prepares for succession dynamics and future electoral battles
in 2027. “Yes, some of them are not comfortable with his(Makinde) decision to impose his choice on them. His political advisers and other cabinet members agreed to pick Taofeek Arapaja, but he unilaterally picked Adekanmbi.
“Also, they believed since Makinde is a Christian, the appropriate thing was to present a Muslim candidate, which he didn’t follow.
“Makinde’s second term ends in seven months. His aides are resigning because of political realignment. Some of them are already having nocturnal meetings with APC”, the source added
