The new chairman of the House of Representatives’ committee on sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has charged the Super Eagles to go for all the six maximum points in the crucial AFCON 2025 qualifying double-header games against Libya.

The Eagles, under interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, will host the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, October 11, before flying to Benghazi to take on the Knights at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, 19 kilometres away from Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Ahead of the matches, the Lawmaker representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency of Zamfara State said the Super Eagles have all the qualities to secure the needed wins in the two games and they just need to show it during the two matches.

“I have no doubt that the boys will make us proud against Libya, especially going by the way they played in the last round of matches.

“I was impressed with what I saw them play against the Benin Republic in Uyo and even the performance against Rwanda in Kigali was also very good despite the draw.

“I am expecting them to step up that performance this Friday and continue from where they stopped in the last round of games,” Amadu urged.

He assured the Super Eagles’ players and their handlers that the National Assembly is fully behind them in their quest to make Nigerians proud. “I also want the players to know that as lawmakers, the National Assembly is fully behind them and the Speaker of the House,  Honourable Tajudeen Abbas is always rooting for them to make Nigerians proud,” he added.

Nigeria’s Eagles currently top their Africa Cup of Nations Qualification Group D with four points from two matches ahead of Friday’s tie with Libya.
