The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, citing the need for experienced leadership to address Nigeria’s deepening economic and security challenges.
The endorsement was announced on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Bauchi, where party leaders, youths, women groups, professionals, and other members unanimously backed the former vice president after what they described as wide consultations across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Bauchi State chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama, said the decision followed a careful assessment of Nigeria’s current socio-economic realities and the search for credible leadership ahead of 2027.
“We have carefully assessed the present condition of our country and the urgent need for rescue, which requires an experienced, courageous, and competent leader,” he said.
Dankama said Nigeria is currently grappling with economic hardship, unemployment, inflation, insecurity, and widespread public frustration, adding that only experienced leadership could reverse the trend.
“Our people are yearning for leadership with vision, compassion, experience, and national acceptance. After careful consideration, we are convinced that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, political maturity, national reach, and democratic credentials required to reposition Nigeria on the path of progress, unity, stability, and prosperity,” he stated.
The endorsement positions former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a key opposition figure in the emerging 2027 electoral landscape.
Dankama said Atiku’s track record in governance and economic reforms during his tenure as Vice President contributed significantly to strengthening the private sector and expanding economic opportunities for Nigerians.
He also praised Atiku’s long-standing commitment to democracy, national unity, restructuring, and inclusive governance, describing him as a politician with consistent national appeal.
“The people of Bauchi State have a long-standing relationship with the Wazirin Adamawa. We recognise his contributions to national development and his continued commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians,” he added.
He further described the endorsement as a strong expression of confidence in Atiku’s capacity to provide “transparent and purposeful leadership” capable of restoring public trust in governance.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress in Bauchi State, I wish to assure our presidential candidate of our total support, loyalty, and commitment towards ensuring victory for our great party in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The party chairman urged members to remain united and disciplined, stressing that electoral success would depend on grassroots mobilisation, sacrifice, and collective effort.
He also called on youths and women to actively participate in the political process, noting that their engagement would be decisive in shaping Nigeria’s future.
Dankama commended the national leadership of the ADC under the chairmanship of former Senate President David Mark for repositioning the party as a stronger opposition force.
He also congratulated the party’s 2027 candidates in Bauchi State, including Sen. Halliru Dauda Jika, Nazif Sulaiman Gamawa, Sen. Abdul Ahmed Ningi, and Hon. Garba Dahiru, urging them to intensify mobilisation efforts.
The party leadership reiterated its commitment to peaceful political engagement, urging members to avoid violence and comply strictly with the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
