Four Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been killed by their own Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in San San village of Mobbor local government area of Borno State.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the terrorists’ bomb turned on them when they were planting IEDs near the route of the troops of the 5 Brigade on Wednesday, shattering their bodies into pieces.

Meanwhile, troops of MNJTF Sector 4 deployed on Chetima Wongonu have discovered an IED around Chetimari Village.

He said, “Prior to the incident, suspected ISWAP terrorists opened fire in Chetimari at night, hoping to lure the troops into the IEDs.

“However, the troops resisted and later discovered the IEDs at about 6:30pm and were subsequently demobilized,” he said.

A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, gathered that despite severe battlefield defeats and loss of territory, supplies and manpower, the insurgents had intensified the use of IEDs.

“The terrorists deployed PBIEDs (person borne IEDs), VBIEDs (vehicle borne IEDs), remote control and timed devices, in defensive positions or for ambushes.

“The tactical use of IEDs to defend enemy positions as well as ambush friendly and allied forces’ line of communication is likely to continue and, in some sectors, become the only form of combat as Boko Haram becomes increasingly incapable of mounting major combat operations,” the source said.
