In a heartfelt public statement issued on Wednesday, Serwaa Amihere, the celebrated broadcast journalist with GHOne TV and Starr 1035 FM, confronted the controversy surrounding the recent leak of her private video. The scandal, which first exploded into public view on April 2, 2024, has since dominated social media discussions.

Amihere disclosed that the intimate tape, recorded five years prior, was released following months of threats and extortion attempts. She detailed how despite vigorous efforts by law enforcement to apprehend those responsible, the video was still disseminated widely, causing significant distress to her, her family, her employers, and associated brands.

“I considerably underestimated the extent of my influence and what I would come to represent,” Amihere expressed in her statement. “This video has severely embarrassed me, my family, and my loved ones. It has also exposed my employers and the businesses and brands I represent to embarrassment.”

The journalist apologised for the fallout from the leaked tape, acknowledging the impact it had on those closest to her and her professional network. “Sincerely, I say sorry for the embarrassment, disappointment, and frustration that this matter has caused,” she added.

In addition to the personal toll, the incident has had far-reaching implications for those implicated in its distribution. The police have detained three individuals – Edem Saviour Ketti, Candylove Kwakyewaa Ababio, and Henry Amponsah, also known as Henry Fitz – who now face charges of sexual extortion and dissemination of private visual content.

Serwaa Amihere concluded her statement with an acknowledgment of the lessons learned and a commitment to moving forward, emphasizing her gratitude for the support she has received during this challenging time.
