Chieftain of the All Progressives Party (APC) and immediate-past governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has described the defection of Philip Shaibu from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC as big blow to the ruling party in the State.
Welcoming Shaibu to APC ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the State, Oshiomhole highlighted that Shaibu’s departure reflected a deep-seated dissatisfaction within the PDP.
He noted that Shaibu, a former deputy governor to incumbent Governor Andrew Obaseki, has experience and influence that would be invaluable to the APC in the upcoming election.
Speaking on Arise News Channel, where he addressed several pressing political issues in Edo State, the Edo North Senator predicted possible disqualification of the PDP governorship candidate from the race.
Oshiomhole cited specific instances where the PDP leadership in various capacities did not meet public expectations, casting doubts on the competence of their candidate to govern Edo State effectively.
Oshiomhole also discussed the rising popularity of APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, attributing his growing support to his grassroots connections, a strong track record of delivering on promises, and a clear vision for the state’s future.
Oshiomhole emphasised that Okpebholo’s candidacy resonated with the electorate, who were eager for effective leadership and tangible development in the State.
