Catholic pontiff, Pope Francis, has been admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, Italy, for ongoing treatment of bronchitis and medical examinations, the Vatican announced on Friday.
The 88-year-old pontiff’s hospitalisation came amid growing concerns about his health following a series of medical issues in recent years.
“This morning, at the end of the audiences, Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for some necessary diagnostic tests and to continue in a hospital setting treatment for bronchitis that is still ongoing,” the Vatican said in an official statement.
The Pope has made multiple visits to the hospital in recent years, including undergoing abdominal surgery in 2023.
