Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested 17 suspected cultists during a raid in Awka.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the suspects were picked up in the early hours of the day following credible intelligence.
According to Ikenga, the suspects, all males, were arrested at a hideout allegedly linked to cult-related activities and other acts considered contrary to public morality.
Items recovered during the operation included dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, containers of petroleum jelly, condoms and other exhibits.
He added that preliminary investigations showed the suspects were allegedly members of the Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Bagger.”
