The chairman of Bekwarra local government, Hon. Theresa Ushie, has called for greater inclusion of physically challenged women, stressing the need for equal access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities.
Speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration in Bekwarra, she urged the community to ensure that no woman is left behind due to physical limitations.
Ushie acknowledged the resilience of women and their contributions to homes, workplaces, and the economy.
She emphasized that International Women’s Day is not just a celebration but a call to action for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Reaffirming her commitment to women’s development, she highlighted the importance of farming, trade, and entrepreneurship in Bekwarra and called for inclusive policies that create opportunities for all women, especially those with disabilities.
She encouraged young girls to pursue their dreams without fear or limitations, emphasizing that neither gender nor disability should define their potential.
She urged society to support and nurture the ambitions of young girls.
The event featured discussions on: “Women’s rights, Financial empowerment, Health awareness.” Additionally, livelihood support was provided for vulnerable women, and participants benefited from financial literacy training to help improve their economic standing.
Women from different parts of Bekwarra praised Ushie’s leadership, commending her dedication to their welfare.
