Court Remands Village Head Over Alleged Defilement Of 8-yr-old In Akwa Ibom

An Akwa Ibom Magistrate Court sitting in Uyo, the state capital, has ordered the village head of Atiamkpat Ubium, in Nsit Ubium local government area, Chief Samuel James Ekpek, to be remanded at the Uyo Medium Custodial Centre pending the ruling of the Court scheduled for July 10, 2025.

Magistrate Ukoima of the court gave the order following application brought by the prosecution team, led by Barr Aniekanabasi Johnson.

Chief Ekpek is standing trial for allegedly defiling an unnamed 8-year -old girl in April, 2024.

The court also ordered that the case file be transferred to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for formal charge, while the over 70 years old village head remains in the Correctional Centre until the adjourned date.

Meanwhile, Federation of International Women Advocates (FIDA) had since stepped into the matter, and relocated the victim to their facility in Ikot Ekpene local government area for treatment and rehabilitation.
