A High Court has reversed the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which dissolved the party’s executive committees at the state, local government and ward levels in Kano State.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in a brief post on the Facebook page of the Kano State Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the post, the court held that the dissolution of the Kano State NNPP structures amounted to contempt of court and consequently ordered all parties involved to maintain the status quo pending further proceedings, saying the ruling effectively reaffirmed the Abiya-led executive committee in the state.
Dawakin Tofa wrote “Just-in: High Court reverses NNPP NWC’s decision on dissolving State, LG and Ward Excos in Kano … Says it is a contempt of court, asks all parties to maintain status quo as Abiya-led exco re-affirmed. Details soon!!!”
LEADERSHIP reports that the court decision comes barely a week after the NNPP NWC announced the dissolution of the party’s executive committees across Kano State. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the party’s national leadership held in Abuja.
As of the time of filing this report, detailed court documents were yet to be made public.
