The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, Peter Deshi, has assured participating golfers and visitors of an improved experience ahead of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
Deshi gave the assurance as preparations entered the final stages for the continental women’s golf championship, scheduled to hold from 2 to 7 November at the Abuja golf club.
He said renovation and improvement works had been carried out at the facility following an extended period of closure to golf, with the upgrades aimed at restoring the course and providing suitable playing conditions for the participating countries.
According to him, hosting the championship presents an opportunity to showcase the club’s improved facilities and distinctive character to golfers and visitors from across Africa.
The 2026 edition will mark the third time Nigeria has hosted the All Africa Challenge Trophy, following the inaugural Nigerian-hosted edition at Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos, in 1996 and the 2010 championship at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Deshi said the tournament would place the Abuja club at the centre of efforts to promote women’s golf and strengthen sporting relations among African countries.
Beyond the competition, the championship is expected to showcase Abuja’s hospitality and tourism potential, with golfers, officials and other visitors expected to converge on the nation’s capital for a week of sporting action and cultural exchange.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy is a major continental team competition for women golfers, providing participating countries with an opportunity to compete for honours while promoting the development of the sport across Africa.
With the tournament scheduled to begin on 2 November, the organisers are intensifying preparations to ensure that the venue and facilities are ready to welcome the continent’s golfers.
The championship is expected to combine competitive golf with opportunities to promote African unity, cultural exchange and Nigeria’s capacity to host major international sporting events.
