Media personality IK Osakioduwa has stated the reason for his absence as the host of the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The 2026 edition marks the very first time the veteran broadcaster has not anchored the prestigious event since its inception in 2013.
Speaking on a television program, The Morayo Show, Osakioduwa cleared the air on speculations surrounding his absence, stating that there is no conflict between him and the organisers of the awards.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time He sent you to be,” the presenter said. “Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. We are in love with each other; they love me, and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
According to the host, his decision to step aside was entirely rooted in his personal values and strict religious principles regarding corporate endorsements.
Osakioduwa disclosed that he does not support or promote alcohol or tobacco brands, which happened to be among the major sponsors of the 12th edition of the awards show.
“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition,” he explained. “I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition. I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”
Following his decision to step down, the AMVCA organisers selected Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha to anchor the 2026 ceremony.
