Ex-agitators under the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Phase 2 have thrown their weight behind former governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson, on his advocacy for the establishment of South South Development Commission (SSDC).

Senator Dickson had during plenary on Thursday, made his contribution to the reopened bill sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong from Cross River South District, and co-sponsored by all the South South Senators, which was earlier suspended in July by the Senate.

In a statement in Yenagoa on Friday, the national chairman of PAP Phase 2, Ibena Rufus Salvation, commended the federal lawmaker for his tireless efforts and steadfast advocacy for the establishment of the development commission in the oil-rich South South region.

Ibena noted that the former governor’s vision and leadership continue to serve as a beacon of hope for the people of the Niger Delta and the entire South-South region.

He said, “Senator Dickson understands the unique challenges we face in our region, and through his advocacy, he’s giving voice to our long-standing demand for greater development, infrastructure and economic empowerment.

“The establishment of the South South Development Commission is not just an idea; it’s a necessity that will address the years of neglect and underdevelopment that have plagued our communities.

“His determination to ensure that the federal government takes the developmental aspirations of the Niger Delta seriously is a reflection of his commitment to justice, equity and progress.

“We urge the National Assembly to listen to his call and expedite the necessary steps to make this vision a reality. This commission will not only transform the South-South but also bring lasting peace and stability to the region.”
