FC Robo Queens have punched their ticket to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six playoff tournament, ending a two-year absence from the season-ending championship.
The Lagos-based outfit delivered a commanding 2-0 victory over Remo Stars Ladies at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, a result that sealed their place among the league’s elite.
The win, played out in front of a passionate home crowd, saw FC Robo Queens dominate from the opening whistle. The first goal came midway through the first half when a swift counterattack caught Remo Stars’ defense off guard, allowing the Robo Queens’ captain to slot home calmly.
The second followed late in the second half—a powerful header from a corner kick that left the visiting goalkeeper with no chance. The clean sheet also highlighted the defensive discipline that has been a hallmark of their campaign.
With this victory, FC Robo Queens finished atop the NWFL Group B standings, amassing 35 points from 16 matches. Their consistency throughout the season—marked by a blend of youthful energy and tactical organization proved decisive in a competitive group.
The team’s last appearance in the Super Six playoffs came in 2023, and the players have openly spoken about their desire to go further this time around.
“We worked so hard for this moment,” said the team’s head coach in a post-match interview. “Qualifying again shows the growth of women’s football in Lagos, and we’re not just happy to be there we want to compete for the title.”
FC Robo Queens now join an elite field that already includes three other confirmed qualifiers: Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, and Edo Queens.
The remaining two spots will be decided in the coming days, setting the stage for a high-stakes playoff showdown to determine Nigeria’s women’s football champion for the season.
For the Lagos-based club, the journey back to the Super Six has been one of resilience and rebuilding. After missing out last year, they retooled their squad, strengthened their youth academy pipeline, and delivered a statement performance when it mattered most.
The celebration at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena was a testament to how far they have come and a warning to their playoff rivals that FC Robo Queens are ready to roar.
