Following the expectation of heavy floods in this year’s rainy season, the Kebbi State government has directed the immediate evacuation of all drainages in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.
The commissioner for urban development planning, Hon. Hayatu Bawa Jega, gave the directive when he briefed journalists in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.
According to him, Governor Nasir Idris gave his ministry an approval to commence the immediate evacuation of the drainages to protect houses and other structures from flood.
Bawa Jega advised households and shop owners against dumping refuse or nylons in the drainages which might cause blockage of water.
He also warned people living in flood-prone areas to relocate to other places for the safety of their lives and properties.
