The Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF) has called on President Bola Tinubu to as a matter of urgency look into the activities of Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) under the leadership of the executive secretary (ES), Amb Mamman Nuhu.
The forum also requested that state governors involved in LCBC seek clarifications for projects implemented in their states by the commission from 2018 to date.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, deputy national president, Comrade Salisu Yahaya and the director, Gender, of the forum Maryam Aliyu (MALIKA) said, the call became imperative in view of the challenges facing the commission particularly on the leadership capacity of the ES.
“We request His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to present a new Executive Secretary (ES) of Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) during its scheduled council of ministers in the first quarter of 2024.
“We kindly request the president’s urgent intervention to address this pressing matter and ensure the preservation of security of the Nigerian representation within the commission.
“We kindly request that President Tinubu direct the appropriate authorities to investigate the allegations made above and to ensure that the proposal for reform, aimed at eliminating Nigerian positions within the commission, is disapproved during the next council of ministers.
“We request as a matter of urgency that the authorities should go through the records of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) to know whether they are fulfilling their mandates over concerns, aforementioned allegations against the leadership of Amb Mamman Nuhu, the present ES of LCBC,” the forum stated.
