Gov Bala Mohammed Not Welcome In APC, Bauchi Group Declares

A group of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has declared that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is not welcome in the party, strongly opposing his alleged plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

The group, under the auspices of APC Solidarity Group & Allied Associations, Bauchi State, made its position known on Saturday in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP jointly signed by its Director of Programmes and External Affairs, I.B. Muhammad, and Secretary, Abubakar Abdullahi.

It disclosed that a petition had already been forwarded to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, outlining 10 reasons why the governor should not be admitted into the party.

“As the 2027 general elections approach, it has become necessary to carefully safeguard the strength, credibility, and internal cohesion of the APC in Bauchi State.

“In this regard, we wish to humbly present the following concerns against the possible admission of Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir into our party,” the group said.

Enumerating its objections, the group cited what it described as the governor’s persistent public criticism of the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It alleged that Mohammed had repeatedly accused the APC-led Federal Government of causing hardship and insecurity, actions it said undermine the party’s image.

The group also pointed to what it termed a decline in public goodwill for the governor in Bauchi State, as well as existing political rivalries between him and key APC stakeholders, including former governor Isa Yuguda, former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Senator Shehu Buba Umar.

According to the statement, concerns over trust and political consistency further weaken the case for his admission into the party.

It warned that allowing Mohammed to join the APC could trigger internal instability, deepen divisions within the Bauchi State party structure, and negatively impact its electoral prospects.

The group also raised concerns about what it described as the governor’s disconnect from the grassroots and alleged ideological inconsistency with the APC’s progressive ideals.

It added that admitting him could demoralise long-standing party members who have remained loyal through difficult times and pose strategic risks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While acknowledging that criticism is a legitimate part of democratic engagement, the group argued that Mohammed’s remarks against the APC were not constructive.

“But in this case, the disturbing thing about the governor’s constant barrage of negative remarks is that upon an objective assessment, most, if not all of it, is not altruistically driven but made for purposes other than serving the good of the common man,” it stated.

Declaring him a persona non grata, the group said: “To us, Kaura is not welcome in APC.

“Having said this, we hereby strongly and unequivocally join thousands of our party members in expressing concerns regarding the recent rumours surrounding the alleged defection bid of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to our dear All Progressives Congress (APC).”

It stressed that as foundation and frontline members of the party, it was imperative to address the issue with utmost seriousness.

The group maintained that the APC is bigger than any individual and urged the party leadership to prioritise unity and strategic positioning ahead of the next general elections.

“It starts with all of us, especially the leadership of the party, elected and appointed members, other stakeholders and the rest of us at all levels,” it said.

The group further called on the national chairman to ensure that all party members work collectively towards victory in the 2027 general elections, both in Bauchi State and across the country.

“The time to prove that numerically, politically, spread-wise and considering all other variables, Bauchi State is an APC state is now, and only a good winning of the forthcoming elections will settle any doubt on this, Mr Chairman.

“We challenge us to make a vow in Allah’s name that nothing will shake our resolve to get the party emerge victorious. May God Almighty help us,” it added.
