I’m Not Bode George’s Political Son – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed any political affiliation with a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, while questioning George’s influence and the party’s performance in Lagos State since 1999.

Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Wike said, “Ask Bode George, since 1999, as united as the party is, have we won anything in Lagos? When he was the deputy national chairman of the party, he didn’t win anything. It is only in my state that you have all the members of the National Assembly as members of the PDP. In Lagos, what do you have?”

LEADERSHIP recalls that last week, George moved a motion at the PDP national convention in Ibadan to suspend Wike and ten other party members, citing alleged anti-party activities.

The motion reportedly received strong backing from party members present at the convention.

The suspension followed a leadership tussle within the party, including court rulings that sought to prevent the convention from taking place, highlighting ongoing internal disputes.

Wike also denied any political mentorship with George, adding, “I am not Chief Bode George’s political son. I’ve never had any relationship with him. When he wanted to run as chairman of the party, I was one of those who stopped him at the time. At that convention, he had to withdraw—we told him no way.”

Turning to the internal party processes, Wike criticised George for his emotional reactions, saying, “He is talking about congresses. Ask Chief Bode George if the congresses that were supposed to be done in the South-East have been done.

“He doesn’t have to be emotional. It is not about you being emotional, sitting in your house as an elderly person. I understand how he feels. Even the so-called congress that was held in Lagos, Bode George was angry.”
