Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has donated a Mobile Police Barrack worth N300 million to Plateau State government to help ameliorate the protracted security challenges in Plateau North and the entire state.
The barrack will be handed over to the state in December this year.
Our correspondent gathered that the ongoing Mobile Police Barrack project facility by HYPPADEC
is situated in Kakuruk community, Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State and has a capacity of accommodating about 150 security personnel.
Meanwhile, the managing-director HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq expressed satisfaction as the project is 70 percent complete.
Sadiq who spoke to newsmen in Barkin Ladi LGA, after touring the project site alongside management staff and governing council of the commission, revealed that the project is driven as a result of the demand by the community.
HYPPADEC MD said, “The cost implication of the project is enormous. This is about N300 million excluding the fencing.”
Recall that Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA were amongst the Plateau communities that experienced onslaught as more than 200 people were killed overnight and properties worth millions of naira destroyed by Fulani militias some years back.
Former vice president Yemi Osimbanjo who visited the community promised billions of naira on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria to enable the rebuilding of homes and resettlement of victims, and construction of Mobile Police Barracks in the affected area. Unfortunately, till President Muhammadu Buhari left power such promises did not come to fruition.
