In a bid to strengthen the financial foundation of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), prominent sports marketing figure Mike Itemuagbor has been appointed as special advisor to the board. Itemuagbor, the founder of Padmozi Sports Marketing (PSM), was approached by his friend, NPFL chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, to leverage his extensive experience and network in corporate Nigeria to reposition the league and attract sponsorships.
In announcing this development, Elegbeleye stated, “The best part of this is that this great marketing mind is going to render his services free of any personal financial reward; it’s pro bono.” Itemuagbor’s pedigree in sports marketing spans over three decades, during which he has worked with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), before founding the renowned Okpekpe Mountain Race, which has attracted some of the world’s best long-distance runners. He was also instrumental in securing some of the biggest sponsorship deals in Nigerian football, including the well-known Globacom sponsorship of the national teams and the then Nigeria Premier League.
