The Kogi State government has formerly received the licence and certificate for Ajaokuta Economic Free Trade Zone, which would boast the economic activities of the state.
Reacting to this, the governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo described the formal presentation of the licence and certificate for the Ajaokuta Economic City Free Trade Zone as a landmark moment in the state’s economic history.
Speaking at the official presentation of the license in Abuja, Ododo noted that he had made a case for Kogi State to be considered for the establishment of the Ajaokuta Economic City Free Trade Zone.
Ododo explained that extensive consultations were held, and committees were set up to fast-track processes, ensuring that due diligence and all legal requirements were strictly followed.
He said the approval granted in November last year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of the 4,000-hectare free trade zone in Ajaokuta marked a turning point for the state.
On his part, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Olufemi Ogunyemi said the Ajaokuta Free Trade Zone has the capacity to transform the economic landscape of the country.
Ogunyemi added that the free trade zone was now generating competition across the country as efforts were on to make other dormant zones active.
