Newly-appointed Flying Eagles head coach, Abdu Maikaba, has unveiled his backroom staff ahead of the team’s camping programme scheduled to begin in Abuja on Sunday, 17 May.
Maikaba has selected Ortega Deniran as first assistant coach, Abdullahi Biffo as second assistant coach, while Usman Mohammed will serve as goalkeepers’ trainer as the technical crew begins the task of assembling a new U20 national team.
The former Flying Eagles assistant coach, who has also managed several top Nigeria Premier Football League clubs, is expected to lead preparations for the forthcoming WAFU B U20 Boys Championship slated for July.
The regional tournament will serve as the qualification competition for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations, a championship Nigeria has won a record seven times.
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Golden Eaglets head coach, Eboboritse Uwejamomere, has also named his assistants as preparations begin for the U17 boys’ campaign.
Uwejamomere appointed Olumide Joseph Ajibolade as first assistant coach, Mohammed Kalli Kachala as second assistant coach, while Abdullahi Isa will handle goalkeepers’ training duties.
The new technical crew has been tasked with rebuilding the Golden Eaglets and guiding Nigeria back to the FIFA U17 World Cup, with the long-term ambition of securing a record-extending sixth global title.
Nigeria will compete in the WAFU B U17 Boys Championship in September, which will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
Both teams are expected to commence intensive preparations immediately as the Nigeria Football Federation continues efforts to strengthen its youth development structures.
