Reports claiming that veteran Fuji musician Kollington Ayinla had died sparked concern across the entertainment industry and among fans.
The rumour spread quickly online. However, the singer’s management team swiftly moved to set the record straight.
In a statement released on Saturday, representatives of the Fuji star dismissed the reports as false and misleading. The statement was signed by Shamsudeen Ilori on behalf of the family and the HSKA Foundation.
The team also accused some individuals of creating the story to attract attention online and drive traffic to their platforms.
The statement reads:
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and unfounded rumour circulating all over the Internet claiming that Kollington Ayinla Fuji Authority has passed away.”
In a bid to calm growing concerns, the management issued an update on the veteran musician’s condition.
According to the statement, Ayinla is alive and in good health. It added that he is spending time with family members and close friends.
“Alhaji Kollington Ayinla is ALIVE, WELL, and IN GOOD HEALTH. Baba is currently enjoying himself, surrounded by family and close associates, and still blessing the world with his unmatched Fuji music dexterity and wisdom,” the statement added.
In the statement, the people behind the false claim were called “heartless”. The management said they showed no concern for the pain it could cause the musician’s family, friends and fans.
They stressed that wrongly announcing someone’s death is not harmless gossip. They said it can cause real distress and confusion.
The statement also criticised content creators and social media users who share sensitive news without checking facts. The management warned that legal action may be taken against anyone who started or spread the false report.
The statement declared: “Spreading false death news is not content — it’s wickedness. The family, management, and legal team of Alhaji Kollington Ayinla will not let this slide. Anyone caught creating or spreading this falsehood will face the full wrath of the law.”
