The director general of the organisation, Joseph Tegbe spoke on the occasion of China’s Lunar New Year 2025, otherwise known as The Year of the Snake.

Tegbe, who extended the season’s greetings to the Chinese community in Nigeria and the people of China, said the year calls for a reflection on the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and China.

The DG who visited China recently, had spent the time bolstering strategic agreements that will support Nigeria’s economic diversification plans, infrastructure development, technology transfer and job creation for mutually beneficial collaboration between both nations.

He also had parley with China’s EXIM and Development banks reviewing the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation projects, and explored various funding options for accelerated delivery.

“The NCSP remains committed to deepening our bilateral ties, fostering economic cooperation and promoting people-to-people relations,” he concluded.

With a history of over 4000 years, the Chinese New Year is a time for celebration, reflection and family reunion. The two-day festival features fireworks, temple fairs and Chinese lantern exhibitions.

Celebrated in many parts of the world, the festival has been listed as a UN floating holiday by the 78th United Nations General Assembly in December 2023, and in December 2024, was inscribed by UNESCO into the list of intangible cultural heritage.
