The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed profound sorrow following the death of Abba Yola.
President, NOC, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Olympic Family in Nigeria.
Abba Yola, a highly respected figure in Nigerian sports, served as the chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club and was formerly associated with the now-defunct Federal Ministry of Sports. His legacy as a committed public servant is marked by significant contributions to the development of sports across the nation.
During his illustrious career, Abba Yola held prominent positions, including Chief of Staff to former Sports Minister Chief Sunday Dare and Special Assistant to Dr Patrick Ekeji, former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC). He was also actively involved in various special committees throughout his tenure, showcasing his dedication to the advancement of sports in Nigeria.
Known for his quiet and humble nature, Yola had a remarkable talent for fostering positive relationships within the community. He approached his responsibilities with both grace and determination, always prioritising his duties while creating an environment of respect and camaraderie among colleagues.
His impeccable dress sense not only reflected his character but also earned him admiration from both peers and superiors alike. Abba Yola’s absence will be acutely felt in Kano and by all who had the privilege to know him.
In this time of mourning, the NOC encourages everyone to celebrate a life well-lived and to remember the positive impact Abba Yola had on the sporting community. Engr. Gumel has offered prayers for the family, asking the Almighty Allah to grant them strength in bearing this irreparable loss and to forgive Yola’s transgressions, admitting his soul into Al Jannah.
