Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, has reviewed the 24-hour curfew imposed in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru local government areas following a considerable improvement in the security situation in the areas.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the special adviser to the governor on Security, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), saying the curfew is now relaxed from 12.00 noon and 5.00p.m for people to undertake their lawful activities.
According to the statement, the security agencies are enjoined to maintain the current level of security alertness and ensure that no space is given to hoodlums and miscreants to perpetrate any act of lawlessness during the curfew relaxation period.
“Consequently, law abiding citizens are requested to carry out their lawful activities during the intervening period (12:00 noon to 5:00pm) while the period between 5pm to 12:00 noon remains restricted,” the statement added.
Following the relaxation of the curfew normalcy has returned to the affected towns, as commuters and residents now ply the road with little or no obstruction.
LEADERSHIP gathered that in Potiskum town some residents expressed gladness that the crisis was over, calling on the state government to ensure the safety of its citizenry.
They also called on the government to dialogue with the youth and allow them to thrive.
Also, speaking to our correspondent via a telephone conversation, the chairman of Nguru local government Hon Muhammad Mairami, called on the residents to be calm and support security agencies to maintain peace and unity.
He added that ” We need peace and stability in our country, and that can be achieved through dialogue with the parties involved”, said Mairami.
Mairami said that the youth are our future, and they need to be allowed to contribute their quotas to the development of our nation.
Hon Mairami has also reaffirmed his commitment to securing the lives and property of people at the grassroots with a call on people, and traditional rulers to support the government’s efforts.
