The people of Barasi Taabaa community in Khana local government area of Rivers State have accused a construction company, Darycet Limited, of destroying the access road to the area.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Bori, they complained that heavy duty trucks belonging to the firm had damaged the road, thereby making it impassable for them.

The statement, which was signed by the traditional ruler of the community, Mene Samuel Nule and 13 others, lamented that the company had blocked all avenue for a peaceful dialogue to resolve the matter.

They also accused the company of using military personnel to intimidate leaders of the community each time they try to express their concerns.

“Heavy machinery from Darycet Construction Company site has dug deep holes and broken the asphalt, cutting us off from neighboring towns.

Local traders, school children and sick people cannot move safely because of the terrible state of the road.

‎

‎”The community leadership has sent various messages to the management of the company through the company CLO, for a peaceful meeting on several occasions but were ignored.

‎

‎”The military officers attached to the company should please keep to the military rules of engagement in their responsibilities to the company and avoid interfering with the right of the community,” the statement said.

‎The community demanded that the company should meet with its leadership within 48 hours to discuss on modalities to fix their dilapidated road and make it safe for members of the community and the general public to use.

‎The statement called on Governor Siminialayi Fubara, member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dum Dekor, Chairman of Khana LGA, Dr. Bariere Thomas and the Divisional Police Officer, Taabaa Police Division to prevail on the company to fix their road.
