Nick Reiner, the son of late Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, is expected to appear before a Los Angeles court today, Wednesday, for a preliminary hearing in the double murder case of his parents.
The hearing, scheduled for 8:30 AM at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Centre, follows the brutal stabbing deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner at their Brentwood residence in December.
During today’s proceedings, prosecutors are expected to present evidence to determine if the matter will proceed to a full trial. Nick, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, faces a special circumstances allegation, which could lead to the death penalty if he is convicted.
Public defender Kimberly Greene is currently representing the defendant, following the withdrawal of his previous counsel, Alan Jackson, earlier this year.
He remains in custody without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
