Sallah Eve Fire Outbreak Destroys N89.7m Property In Kwara

A fire incident in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday night, destroyed property worth over N89.7million.

The Eid-el-Fitr eve fire incident gutted six shops at the popular Oja Tuntun market, Baboko area, Ilorin, the State capital.

The spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said the prompt intervention of the firemen stopped the ravaging fire from spreading to other shops in the market.

Adekunle added: “The fire outbreak which was reported on Thursday, 20th April 2023, at about 19:22hours (07:22PM) was subdued by the firepower of the fire crew which did not allow it spread beyond the seat of fire.

“The leading officer of the crew who attended to the incident announced that they arrived promptly at the scene and they were able to limit the damage caused by the ravaging fire. Out of 1,070 lockup shops, six shops were affected.

“Total estimated property save is N2.6billion while the total estimated property lost is N89.7m.”
