The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has officially unveiled a commemorative logo to mark its 60th anniversary, celebrating a significant milestone in the association’s history since its inception in 1964.

The unveiling of the anniversary logo heralds the commencement of a series of events designed to honour six decades of exceptional contributions to sports journalism, development, and advocacy within Nigeria.

The logo, creatively designed in vibrant green and white, prominently features the number “60” alongside the SWAN emblem. This design reflects the association’s legacy and ongoing impact on the country’s sporting landscape. A ribbon inscribed with “Years Anniversary” further emphasises the importance of this diamond jubilee.

SWAN president Isaiah Benjamin described the unveiling as a moment of pride, reflection, and renewed commitment. “As we unveil this logo, we are not merely celebrating the past 60 years; we are also rekindling our collective dedication to professionalism, integrity, and the promotion of sports through responsible journalism,” he stated.

He further revealed that the anniversary celebrations will include a diverse array of activities, such as awards ceremonies, public lectures, media games, recognition of sports icons and veterans, as well as a gala night to honour distinguished individuals who have supported SWAN’s mission over the years.

According to a statement by the secretary general of the association, Mr Ikenna Okonkwo, the three-day anniversary event is set to take place in October, coinciding with Nigeria’s 65th Independence celebration.

This 60th anniversary occurs at a time when SWAN is intensifying its efforts to shape narratives around sports governance, policy, and inclusive participation at all levels.

Members of the media, partners, stakeholders, and the general public are invited to participate in the celebration of this historic achievement and to support the Association’s vision for the future.
Further details regarding the anniversary programme will be announced in the coming weeks.
