The Taraba State Council for Interreligious Affairs and the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management have resolved to establish interfaith mediation and dialogue committees to strengthen religious tolerance and prevent conflicts across the state.

The committees will form part of a joint strategy by the two agencies to promote peaceful coexistence, facilitate dialogue among religious groups and strengthen mechanisms for resolving disputes in Jalingo and across the 16 local government areas.

The decision was reached during a visit by a delegation of the Council for Interreligious Affairs led by its executive secretary, to the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management in Jalingo.

The delegation was received by the bureau chairman, Bishop Innocent Rubiruka Solomon, alongside members of the agency.

Under the proposed partnership, the two agencies will develop a framework for coordinated peacebuilding and conflict management interventions, with regular meetings to assess progress and strengthen implementation.

They also agreed to work with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council to coordinate interfaith dialogue, mediation and other peacebuilding initiatives across the state.

The collaboration will further involve training religious leaders and strengthening their capacity to identify potential sources of conflict, mediate disputes and promote mutual understanding among adherents of different faiths.

The initiative is expected to enhance cooperation between the two agencies and encourage religious institutions to play a more active role in conflict prevention and peacebuilding at the community level.
