The state ASUU chairman, Dr Joshua Mbaver, alongside some of the lecturers of the university made the promise yesterday while speaking with newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital.

The lecturers described the development as a morale booster for better service delivery that would produce better students and also improve the performance of the institution, promising to keep working assiduously until the institution is ranked among the top 5 best academic performing universities in the country.

They commended Governor Kefas for the decision to implement the new minimum wage and appealed for its sustainability to attract more professionals into the university.

Mbaver said that the payment of the minimum wage to the lecturers is a mind-blowing development, stating that the gesture would see a lot of transformational changes in the university.

“We are now among the top best-paid university lecturers in all Nigerian universities, including federal universities.

“I sincerely commend Governor Agbu Kefas for taking this wise decision. It’s a moral booster that will make us deliver the best that has never been witnessed in any university in Nigeria.

“This development would attract the best professionals of different fields, from other universities to Taraba, and we will create wonders.

“I must commend the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the commissioner, and the university management for their efforts that saw quick resolution of issues around us in the university,” Mbaver expressed.

On his part, the Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Christian Amuche, stated that the implementation of the new minimum wage has made Taraba State University one of the highest-paying institutions in Nigeria adding that the development would change the status of the institution in terms of performance.

Also, an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and former chairperson of ASUU Taraba State University, Samuel Shikaa commended the governor for helping the lecturers to effectively discharge their responsibilities, saying the potential for industrial disharmony have been significantly mitigated.
