In Nigeria, running a women’s clothing business is profitable. This is because women, in contrast to males, enjoy following fashion industry trends. A typical Nigerian woman enjoys positioning herself in a way that makes her appear superior to other women in the office and church environment, and she does this mostly through clothing.

Mrs. Oghenewome Aguda, who specialises in selling ladies wear in Lagos, affirmed that, sales of ladies’ wear, is so lucrative, even as she disclosed that she has been able to send her three children to university, with the help of the business.

Secrets To Success

The first thing one needs to know when starting the business is fashion trend, Mrs. Aguda asserted.

“Aside the fact that you need to raise up capital up to N200,000 (for starters), you must also be abreast with the latest fashion trends, because the competition is real.

“Even when you sell premium materials and offer reasonable prices, the market may still be competitive. That is why you need to know the latest trend, and always  order unique women’s wear designs that no one else has in order to gain the upper hand. When this happens, your firm will grow since you will have had time to accumulate enough cash before competitors start placing orders for the identical design.

“Also, don’t sell at an extravagant pricing to keep clients because women’s fashion is constantly changing. If you consistently use high-quality materials and offer competitive prices, women will undoubtedly support your clothing business.

“In addition, when opening a women’s clothing store in Nigeria, you must employ strategies that will increase your merchandise’s sales. People who are interested in investing in the firm will be guided by the specified guidelines,” she advised.

Another thing that matters in the business is location, Aguda said, even as she disclosed that having a physical store that is close to an office environment, universities and markets like Balogun market, contribute to the success and sustainability of the business.

Also, one thing that would make one gain upper hand in the business is by being friendly, she said, even as she alluded that, “since women are amazing beings that are prone to liking and disliking, maintaining a friendly relationship with them is necessary if you want them to support your business. You can do this by calling them on the phone, complimenting their appearance, attending their special occasions, among others.”

Advertising ladies wear online is so very key, to boosting customer based and business as well. “Social media has been a miracle tools for me. And the good part, is that you are not paying anybody. All that is required is a N300 worth of data, to upload your wears via all your social media platforms.

“All you need do is to share images of your ladies wear on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. As your business keeps growing, you can take a step further by uploading your wears on e-commerce platforms like Jiji, Jumia and Konga. Using search engines like Google or Bing are all reliable ways to promote your women’s clothing store in Nigeria.

“Above all, you should never be ashamed of your hustle. Sometimes, I take some of my upscale clothing to areas where women are frequently visible, like salon. You can also try that,” she advised.
