2027: Group Targets 90% Of FCT Votes For Tinubu

A political support group, the Rainbow Coalition Family Movement, has set a target of securing over 90 per cent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The group also announced plans to commence grassroots mobilisation across the nation’s capital, with its FCT coordinator, Yakubu Gowon Adama, saying the movement would engage political, traditional, religious, professional and community leaders ahead of the election.

Adama disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the maiden press conference of the coalition’s FCT chapter.

He said the group was open to members of different political parties and would mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election as well as All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates contesting National Assembly seats in the FCT.

“Our target is clear. It is to ensure that President Tinubu secures over 90 per cent of votes in the FCT in 2027, as against the less than 25 per cent he got in 2023,” Adama said.

In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu polled 90,902 votes, representing 19.76 per cent of the 460,071 valid votes cast in the FCT, while Labour Party candidate Peter Obi won with 281,717 votes.

Adama said the movement would deploy its grassroots structures across the FCT and work with political party leaders and other stakeholders to achieve its target.

He said the coalition was inspired in part by what he described as the inclusive political approach of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, adding that the group had incorporated the structure of the Patriots of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (POBAT) into the coalition.

The coordinator said the group would also mobilise support for what he described as the continuation of the Tinubu administration’s reforms.

The Northern Regional Coordinator of the coalition, Prince Umar Haruna, said the movement’s structures across the 19 northern states were ready for grassroots mobilisation.

He said the group would pursue its political activities peacefully and responsibly while encouraging greater participation in the democratic process.

The Northern Regional Women Leader, Hajia Mutiat Bidemi Babatunde, also called for increased participation of women in political mobilisation and decision-making.

Babatunde said women across the northern states would be mobilised to participate actively in the political process, adding that the coalition would focus on grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group said its mobilisation activities would begin ahead of the 2027 election to build support for Tinubu and APC candidates in the FCT.
