At least two suspected bandits have been killed while over 500 cattle they rustled were recovered following a foiled attack on Tsauri town in Shanono local government area of Kano State yesterday.
The operation, carried out by a joint team of security operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), repelled the attackers who reportedly stormed the border community.
Chairman of Faruruwa Community Security Committee, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, commended the swift response of security agencies, particularly the police.
He said the bandits, numbering about 150 and riding on motorcycles, invaded Tsauri town and targeted a Fulani herder said to own over 2,000 cattle, rustling a large number before fleeing.
“We quickly alerted security agencies and neighbouring communities including Goron Dutse, Shanono and Tsanyawa. I also personally contacted the Commissioner of Police, who immediately directed a decisive response,” Bagobiri said.
According to him, the joint security team intercepted the fleeing bandits at different points along the Kano–Katsina axis, engaging them in a gun duel that led to the neutralisation of two of the attackers and the recovery of over 500 cattle.
