The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has been suspended by the party.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi on Thursday, the party described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that it was unaware of any such action against the lawmaker.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is unaware of any suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, the distinguished Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory,” Abdullahi said.
The party explained that it has laid down constitutional procedures for handling issues involving its members and would not address such matters through public statements without following due process.
“As a law-abiding political party, the ADC has clear constitutional procedures for addressing any allegations involving its members. Such matters are handled through established internal mechanisms, not through press statements,” the statement added.
The development followed reports circulating online that Kingibe had been suspended by her ward within the party.
However, the ADC urged members of the public and the media to ignore the claims, stressing that no disciplinary action had been taken against the senator.
“We therefore urge the public and the media to disregard the reports suggesting that Senator Ireti Kingibe has been suspended by the party, as they are false and misleading,” Abdullahi stated.
