The Civic Centre for National Security and Civic Responsibility (CCNSCR) has commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for intensified military operations in the North Central region, describing recent security improvements as encouraging.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Executive Director, Johnson Audu, the group said the renewed operational drive and improved coordination among security agencies have begun to restore order in communities previously affected by banditry and violent attacks.
The group noted that several states in the region are witnessing increased troop presence, more responsive military interventions and improved surveillance, which have disrupted criminal networks and reduced security threats.
“The emerging security improvements across the North Central region are both significant and reassuring,” the statement said, attributing the progress to a more proactive and intelligence-driven approach by the military.
CCNSCR also highlighted the military’s success in securing major transport routes and responding swiftly to distress calls, noting that these efforts have helped rebuild public confidence in affected communities.
While applauding the Armed Forces for their resilience and commitment, the group warned that the gains remain fragile and must be sustained to prevent a relapse into insecurity.
“These gains, while commendable, remain fragile. It is imperative that the Armed Forces sustain the current operational tempo and continue to apply pressure on criminal elements,” Audu said.
The group further urged the military to replicate the successes recorded in the North Central across other troubled regions of the country through sustained presence and strategic engagement.
Ahead of the Easter celebrations, CCNSCR called for heightened vigilance and robust deployment of security personnel nationwide to ensure a peaceful and secure festive period.
“We urge the military to intensify efforts to ensure Nigerians celebrate Easter in peace and safety across the country,” the statement added.
The group also stressed the importance of citizen cooperation, urging Nigerians to support security agencies with credible information and remain vigilant.
It added that sustained collaboration between the military, communities and other stakeholders is critical to achieving lasting peace and stability across the country.
