CitySports Africa has marked its fifth anniversary with the launch of a commemorative sports jersey, reinforcing its commitment to youth empowerment through sports. The organisation, established in 2019, has played a pivotal role in developing young athletes across Africa and the African diaspora by integrating sports with leadership and academic skill-building.
The anniversary celebration, attended by athletes, sports stakeholders, and brand supporters, highlighted CitySports Africa’s impact over the past five years. The newly- unveiled sports jersey was designed to reflect the organisation’s core values of resilience, excellence, and inclusivity.
Speaking at the event, CEO, Shola Opaleye, expressed pride in the organisation’s journey and its achievements. “We are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in the last five years,” he said. “This journey has been about more than just sports—it’s about focusing on the right route to develop sports, leadership, and academic skills because these are the basic three skills every child needs to attain their potential as they grow up. Our new jersey launch symbolises the ‘CitySports for All’ spirit, designed for champions on and off the field.”
Looking ahead, CitySports Africa has set a long-term goal of reaching 10 million youth by 2035, with an annual target of one million. Opaleye reiterated the organisation’s vision, stating, “Our vision is to create a future where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to unlock their full potential through sports, equipping them with essential life skills, confidence, and leadership abilities to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.”
The newly- released jersey incorporates a modern design and high-performance fabric, offering both durability and comfort. Limited-edition versions have been made available for purchase, making it a collector’s item for dedicated supporters of CitySports Africa.
The event featured interactive sessions, special awards, and recognition of outstanding athletes, with key stakeholders and partners in attendance. CitySports Africa also reiterated its commitment to fostering local talent and advancing the sports industry in Nigeria and beyond.
Over the past five years, the organisation has gained recognition as a leader in sports development, implementing programs that not only enhance athletic abilities but also promote teamwork, resilience, and community engagement.
